CARPLS, one of Cook County’s largest and most innovative legal aid programs, seeks a full-time Paralegal to assist with the new Illinois statewide legal assistance hotline as part of the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network (IL-AFLAN). The IL-AFLAN Hotline partners with legal aid and pro bono providers across the state to deliver critical legal services to active duty military personnel, veterans, members of the National Guard, Reservists, and their spouses and dependents.

The IL-AFLAN Paralegals (1 of 2) support the attorneys working on the project, who provide legal advice and other direct legal services to project clients over the IL-AFLAN hotline. The paralegal will talk to project clients on the telephone, assist with intake, follow up and follow through, assist in securing resources for clients, assist in the development of client publications on veteran and military legal issues, and assist with tasks supporting the outreach efforts promoting the project to clients, other legal aid providers, and community partners.

The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited Paralegal program.

The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited Paralegal program.

At least 3 years of prior legal experience preferred, and prior legal aid experience is helpful.

Experience with new software, attention to detail, and ability to work independently very helpful.
